This week I was able to more fluently read and play the notes at the same time. After having to play the piano with two hands due to a finger injury, this is the first week I have been able to correctly play with one hand. This is much more difficult with one hand but if I learn I want to be able to learn it right. I was able to easily make it through the first two lines in around 20 minutes but the third line was the real challenge. It took me almost an hour to correctly play and connect it to the last line. After that though I was able to easily connect all four lines smoothly and I was amazed by how not awful it sounded.
I am currently very ahead of schedule and in my planning really overcompensated how long it would take me to learn that one song. By next week I will have another, more difficult song picked out and ready to begin. This song will require me to use to both hands at the same time and much more practice. I hope to finish this upcoming song in around four to six weeks and maybe learn another one around the same difficulty after, depending on how much time I have. Thanks for keeping up with my blog, more to come next week!!!

Hello, welcome back to my blog!! This week I learned where middle C is on the piano, and where the other keys are in relation to it. I also learned where the notes are on the staff, and that bass and treble clefs have different notes. I wrote all of them out on the paper so it would be easier to play and read it at the same time. Although I know how to play the notes and where they are, playing them on the right beat, and holding them for the right time is definitely a challenge. Another challenge is that my fingers are really short, and it’s hard for me to reach the keys, and play all five easily and fast enough. I already made it halfway through my first song, Ode to Joy, after only two nights of practice. This means I will learn this song completely then try to learn another more difficult song by the end. Ode to Joy was easy because it was only notes C-G on one hand(which for me was two). Next I will try to learn a song with harder notes or having to use two different staffs, and having to play both at the same time. Thanks for reading, if you want to see the sheet music I'm using click the button below!!
My project is about learning how to play the piano. My goal by the end of this twelve weeks is to either be able to play "Ode to Joy" or "Theme from Mahogany" pretty well. This project is going to be extremely difficult for me because I have never played a musical instrument before or looked at any music notes or sheets. This means i’ll have to move pretty slow since I am learning something completely new and that can get really frustrating. I am also going to have to find time to practice this frequently because this is not a skill I can pick up just doing it once a week. Time management will be key.
I have it broken up into smaller sections and hope to learn a line a week so I will have extra time to put it all together or if something doesn’t stay on schedule. This week I am going to start by just learning what notes are on the sheet music and how to read them. Then where the keys are on the piano and how they sound. |
